I have long been on email lists from both Democratic and Republican and non-partisan interest groups. Understanding how differently each views and interprets political events has always fascinated me. For a few years I worked at a small non-profit monitoring Political Talk Radio. Long before the current Rush Rising – during the Clinton impeachment - I was listening to Limbaugh, G. Gordon Liddy, and Oliver North on a daily basis.

Somehow my head didn’t explode nor did the experience cause me to lose faith in progressive ideas. In fact, the opposite happened. It did immunize me to the racist, homophobic, misogynistic tirades that are the bread and butter of the Angry Right. When vicious and irrational emails attacking a Democratic candidate’s religion, sexual orientation or patriotism, I often follow my father’s sage advice when he would simply say, “Christopher, consider the source.” I’ve even learned to shrug off Coulter’s nonsensical crap.

In addition to the lies they perpetuate about President Obama (he’s a Muslim, America-hating, Iran-loving Socialist!), the Right-Wing nutcases send emails denouncing global warming, vilifying immigrants, and blaming ACORN for Wall Street’s crash. It’s clear that reality and the Right went separate ways long ago and Republicans have paid the price at the ballot box.

But, this morning, an email from World Net Daily via Human Events was simply blood-chilling.

I’ll admit I don’t understand the fear gun enthusiasts have that the government is going to take away law-abiding citizens’ right to bear arms. If it didn’t happen after tragedies like Columbine or Virginia Tech, the government is going to start seizing guns anytime soon.

When the Angry Right, in the wake of a presidential campaign that saw Palin campaign events look more like the marauding peasants storming Dracula’s castle, urges their base to arm themselves because Democrats control Congressional majorities and the White House, I’m fearful for our future.
